Role Summary

Americold is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Engineering and Maintenance Manager for our Iberia Cluster (Spain and Portugal) to support and complement the current engineering teams. This management role will act as a strategic backup, ensuring continuity and operational excellence across our Iberia Cluster whilst the Site Engineering Manager’s action the day-to-day activity. This role will oversee maintenance operations, contractor coordination, compliance, and continuous improvement across multiple cold storage facilities ensuring a measured, controlled and collaborative approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Regional Engineering Maintenance Manager regards objectives, goals and projects aligning process with the other Cluster Leads for Central and UK/Ireland.
• Operational backup & continuity supporting the site General Managers building strong relationship with the Direct of Operations for that cluster
• Serve as the engineering lead for the sites in: Barcelona, Algeciras, Valancia, Lisbon, Porto, Sines and Lexioes.
• In the absence or limited availability of the primary manager will directly support those sites to ensure tasks are completed as required.
• Ensure seamless execution of maintenance and engineering activities across all sites.
• Maintenance & Facility oversight including directional setting and standards.
• Ensure the management of daily maintenance operations including refrigeration, material handling equipment, and utilities are happening in line with legal requirements and planned maintenance requirements.
• Monitor preventive maintenance programs and ensure timely corrective actions ensuring a consistent approach to all activities.
• Contractor & vendor management to ensure the sites are competent and authorized to complete the works.
• Coordinate external contractors for specialized repairs, installations, and upgrades relating to larger maintenance projects and capital projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards.
• Compliance & safety of own team and 3 rd party contractors
• Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Strategic approach to investment and energy management to assist in ROI pipeline.
• Budgeting & Planning relating to operational costs within the sites are controlled and projects are managed to come in line with costs.
• Management of the annual maintenance budgets and capital expenditure plans to ensure site delivers those target and has to tools to do so.
• Monitor expenditures and contribute to cost-saving initiatives at site and through Global initiatives.
• Resource planning for open positions and structure, technical Leadership for the teams across the cluster and training opportunities for all maintenance team
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
• Support engineering projects including automation, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
• Work closely with the Director of Operations for Cluster to ensure clear lines of communications.
• Support for Audits (IFS/GRC etc)
• Provide the support required for delivery of Project Orion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in maintenance or engineering management, ideally in cold storage or logistics.
• Strong understanding of refrigeration systems, warehouse automation, and contractor management.
• Fluent in English written and spoken.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ideally based in the Barcelona or Lisbon must have willingness to travel as needed within the cluster and potential to support other projects outside of the Iberia cluster.
