About the Role

We are seeking a Backend Integration Engineer to play a key role in the migration of a legacy web portal to a modern, mobile-first native application. This role focuses on designing and building scalable, reliable backend services that support core user experiences such as events, calendars, chat, auditing, and data synchronisation.

You will work closely with mobile engineers, product managers, and platform teams to modernise APIs, enable robust synchronisation patterns, and ensure backend systems are secure, observable, and resilient throughout the migration journey. This opportunity suits someone who enjoys working in structured delivery environments and values quality, clarity, and shared ownership.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable microservices supporting core application domains including events, calendars, synchronisation, audit logging, and chat orchestration
• Define and maintain versioned, mobile-first API contracts that support idempotent writes, delta synchronisation, and offline-friendly workflows
• Lead backend integration efforts during the migration from a web portal to a native mobile application, ensuring smooth client transitions and backward compatibility
• Implement authentication and authorisation middleware, including Okta token validation, OAuth2/OIDC flows, JWT handling, and role-based access controls
• Build reliable synchronisation and audit pipelines with strong traceability, retry mechanisms, and error handling
• Support high service reliability through monitoring, structured logging, alerting, and incident response

What You’ll Bring

• Strong backend development experience using Node.js and TypeScript

• Lead the creation of test strategies, scenarios, and detailed test cases based on project scope, business requirements, and design documentation, using tools such as Azure DevOps or JIRA X Ray.

• Experience in obtaining business requirements from users and conducting testing execution and testing documentation/artefacts
• Industry experience in the transport sector is highly regarded but not essential.
• ISTQB or similar testing certification is a plus.
