An international renewable energy developer and asset owner is seeking an Investment Associate to support expansion in Japan. The role will focus on project due diligence, financing, and regulatory engagement, particularly in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial and commercial due diligence on prospective projects and acquisitions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, and financing institutions to structure and secure project financing.
- Negotiate with local authorities, regulators, and utilities on permits, contracts, and market participation.
- Build and review financial models and investment cases to support decision-making.
- Manage deal execution, including documentation, negotiations, and investment committee processes.
- Support portfolio optimization and monitor performance of operating assets.
- Provide insights on the Japanese energy and storage market to guide strategic growth.
Qualifications
- 5-8+ years of experience in project finance, infrastructure/energy investment, or corporate development.
- Proven track record in renewable energy transactions in Japan; BESS exposure preferred.
- Strong relationships with local banks and financial institutions.
- Experience in regulatory processes and stakeholder engagement with Japanese authorities/utilities.
- Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills.
- Fluency in Japanese and English required; advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or equivalent) preferred.
