The main advantages of the use of UAV for site specific management on a field, compared with on site measuring, is the ability to quantify the variability of the entire field. No need for transects with point measurements and lack of spatial understanding of what is happening to the crop. In relation to satellite imagery and conventional aerial photography, the use of UAV permits field specific flight parameters because only few fields can be covered during one flight. This permits to operate and deliver data to the farmer according to his management agenda, instead of depending of cloud cover and programmed missions on regional scale. Every, region and growth stage requires other products. Either for water management, variable rate fertilization, application of fungicides, defoliation, field characterization or plague detection, all need specific maps that can be delivered by UAV-based image products. Depending of the local legislation, main weather conditions and field size, which UAV has best performances? Which sensors map what kind of biophysical parameter in the plant and are cheap or small enough to be integrated in the UAV? What is the best way to mosaic and georeference imagery?
