Since 1968, the Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum (BBMLF) has sought to identify emerging community leaders and stimulate their interest and involvement in community service. Drawing from all sectors of the community – business, faith, nonprofit, neighborhood and civic groups – the purpose is to provide information about, analysis of and opportunities to explore key metropolitan issues and needs. The Leadership Forum begins with a Saturday morning city bus tour, typically the Saturday after Labor Day. Most participants find themselves in New Orleans locations they have never seen before, and expand their knowledge of the city’s history. Presentations are followed by lively question and answer/discussion sessions, during which participants develop both a broader understanding of the issue at hand and their own perspective on the topic.

Travelling across the length and breadth of India is a great learning experience. This is an ancient land in which one can always read the imprints of human activities in different periods of history. There is scarcely any part of the country which is untouched by the gamut of human activities in earlier eras. But the same is a big challenge for the historian who is forced to rely upon imagination and analysis to re-create most of the stories and events in the Silent historical timeline. The problem is due to dearth of and at times a total absence of authoritative historical records which can yield a definitive picture. I have been fascinated by the great heritage of India, and have been visiting historical places and monuments right since my school days in order to unearth, imbibe and popularise some untold and uheard stories from these bastions of human activity in the past. And a study of such silent edifices of the past has been so interesting, that I now must begin to share what I have observed during my tours of different places in India. I have visited severalwhich are well known to all of us and have also shared the photographs of some of these sites on Facebook earlier. But the beauty in this endeavour is to find a deep historical imprint in the most unsuspected places. The quest to know more about the history of India has continued and further, these days I have also been reading various historical sources to enrich my knowledge about the places visited in due course of my travels across the length and breadth of India. I have specially created this group to share the details of some lesser known places in India and the knowledge I have gathered about them. I will be updating the page with details in time. Black Hawk Mines Bulletin is all for the preservation and promotion of mining ghost towns that are widely being neglected across the world. We support historical sites and promote the rebirth of current mining ghost towns that still have a lot of potential in generating income and historical value. This blog regularly publishes news and details regarding mining-sites-turned-ghost-towns to educate people interested in history and to gather support for our cause from different parts of the world. Our group is presently working alongside other associations to keep ghost towns, like the BlackHawk, Colorado, in the map; perhaps, even to try and make them a tourist spot.

The Dakota County Historical Society was created in 1939 to "preserve, interpret and promote the history of Dakota County." DCHS currently operates three historic sites located throughout Dakota County. The Lawshe Memorial Museum (130 3rd Avenue N - South St. Paul, MN) is the headquarters of the organization. It includes historical exhibits, collections and a research library for the organization. Admission is FREE. In 2005, DCHS took over operations of the LeDuc Historic Estate (1629 Vermillion Street - Hastings, MN). The site is open for tours May 15th - October 25th, Thursday - Sundays from 10am - 5pm. Founded in 1996, the Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project is a long-term, multi-period, multi-disciplinary research project set up to investigate the entire range of human settlement and land-use in a typical north-west Norfolk parish, from the earliest times to the present day. Currently one of the largest archaeological projects in Britain, our ongoing work encompasses multipleand a wide range of historical and archaeological techniques, from large-scale open area excavation and exploratory test pitting to map regression and standing building survey. The Project is an exercise in democratic archaeology, believing that all those who participate have an equal say how the project is run, and we are strongly rooted in the local community, whose heritage we are engaged in studying and whose participation we encourage.

The Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies was established in 1964 to encourage and strengthen local organizations involved in the preservation and study of historical documents, sites, buildings, and artifacts through the exchange of information and cooperative activities. Members include historical societies, commissions, foundations, preservation groups, museums, archives, and patriotic organizations. The Confederation is governed by an executive council made up of statewide officers and regional representatives from ten districts across the state. In the early 1960s, South Carolina realized it had a pleasant kind of challenge to meet. All over the state, almost 100 enthusiastic organizations existed to encourage the study of "nearby history." They included roundtables and study circles; museum and preservation commissions; local research, archival and genealogical societies; and various combinations thereof. How could everyone work together at the state level to promote the study and preservation of our rich community histories? An important part of the answer to that question was the creation of the Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies. On April 4, 1964, representatives of fourteen historical societies met at Batesburg-Leesville and officially organized the Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies. The Lexington County Historical Society sponsored the meeting and Dr. Charles E. Lee, Director of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History at the time, supported its creation.
