HosPilot is a collaborative research project co-funded by the European Commission under the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme. Improving sound quality relates to medical outcomes, patient recovery time, HIPAA compliance, HCAHPS scores and reimbursements. Improving the patient auditory experience results in better sleep quality, improved relaxation and the ability to communicate more effectively with physicians and nurses. Achieving lower noise levels and improving overall sound quality is a complex process with many influencing factors, both cultural/behavioral and architectural/engineering. While decades of evidence based design research has clearly shown the benefits of reducing noise and improving sound quality, few healthcare professionals have the time to find, read and organize all of this information and then try to implement all of the various cures on a facility or system wide basis.
