This is a forum that brings together end users, vessel owners, operators, designers, suppliers, brokers, equipment manufacturers, regulators and industry associations to network and debate, to share experiences and to discuss practical solutions to the challenges faced by the industry.

HullSTARS is a body that operates as part of Hull University Union’s membership services. It was set-up in 2013 following a review of HUU’s strategy. Our mission is to work pro-actively with landlords to improve the standard of studentin Hull whilst giving prospective the tenants the information they require to make an informed choice when it comes to selecting a property. There are two sides to HullSTARS: auditing and feedback. The first part of the system is to audit properties against set weighted criteria. These criteria combine a number of elements such as Health & Safety, legislative requirements, basic amenities and quality of living. Properties will be given a rating on a scale of 0 to 5 stars based on the percentage audit score that they receive. Once the audit has been reviewed landlords are issued with a certificate unique to that property that displays their audited rating, it is recommended that this is displayed at the respective properties on a noticeboard or in a communal area. The certificate will display the property address and the date of the audit (along with an expiry date). The second part of the system is this website which allows University of Hull students to give feedback for their registered term-time address. Auditing and rating properties will only serve to evaluate the standards of individual properties, it does not tell us that landlords and agencies actually practice what they preach, HUU’s members have told us that they want to be able to feedback openly on their property, and they want to be able to listen to what previous tenants have had to say about the properties and the landlords they are looking at.
