In these challenging financial times the concept of a full retirement is long gone. My Dad, a 22 year military vet and a 10 year postal worker, retired in 1974 and enjoyed a full retirement only volunteering at a local hospital to “keep busy”. Now most if not all retired postal workers must work additional jobs just to make ends meet. We have skills that can be an asset to many organizations and entrepreneurial groups while supplementing our incomes. That is our purpose.

Our Veterans have Honorably Served our Nation, NOW it’s time to GIVE BACK! I established the Florida Veteran Transition Network to assist Veterans in their search for civilian careers. Florida’s unemployment rate is high and there are a great number of candidates competing for the same jobs. This issue is further compounded by major organizations like the USand NASA pushing out mass numbers of employees into the job market. Our Veterans are often at a disadvantage when completing for civilian jobs, because their lack of knowledge and/or preparation for the civilian job market. This short coming varies by Veteran and is based on their number of years in the Service and/or the number of years of civilian employment they may have had prior to military service. The military provides transition assistance in the way of resume writing, interview skills and so forth. However, the transition assistance provided is out of date with the job hunting skills required to be successful in today’s market and that is where this Group can make a difference! I encourage all to share in this endeavor, to assist our Veterans in their search for Civilian Employment. I also encourage civilian recruiters and companies to reach out to these Veterans to fill their ranks.
