The mission of Advanced Air Mobility Africa (AAMA) is to promote the development and integration of advanced air mobility technologies in Africa, with a focus on urban transportation and regional connectivity. We strive to foster a better understanding of the potential of these technologies to improve mobility and accessibility in Africa, and to support the development of a safe and sustainable air mobility ecosystem. Our goal is to provide a platform for the sharing of knowledge and expertise, to foster collaboration and partnerships between industry, government, and academic institutions, and to support the development of regulations, infrastructure and workforce needed for the success of advanced air mobility in Africa. AAMA brings together experts from various fields such as aviation, engineering, urban planning, transportation, and environmental science, to provide a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the potential and challenges of advanced air mobility in Africa. We also work closely with governments, international organizations, NGOs, and the private sector to promote sustainable development and to ensure that the future is equitable and inclusive for all. We are committed to promoting sustainable and equitable development, recognizing and celebrating excellence in advanced air mobility, and working towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by fostering innovation and development in the field of advanced air mobility in Africa.

The EU-funded ULTRHAS project will reveal the health threats posed by nanoparticles from different transport sources and provide guidance for policy development to improve air quality and health. They may be tiny, but ultrafine particles (UFPs) can pose a big health risk. For instance, inhalation of these nano-sized particles has been associated with respiratory diseases. Non-regulated nanoparticle emissions from transport sources belong to this category of high concern. The ULTRHAS project will reveal the health threats posed by nanoparticles from different transport sources. Specifically, it will address the impact of different transport modes, fuel technologies and wear components, including atmospheric ageing processes, on the physicochemical characteristics of particulate and gaseous emissions. To study the harmful effects in the lung, the project will apply emission measurement, exposure, and toxicity-testing approaches under highly controlled laboratory conditions. ULTRHAS will provide enhanced understanding of the health threats posed by UFP-emissions from different transport modes, optimize a framework for toxicity and hazard assessment of aerosols, and provide guidance for policy development to improve air quality and promote health and wellbeing.

This group is for members of the National Safety Council Transportation Safety Division. Division members network and collaborate on topics relating to safety on the road, on waterways, and in the air.

The Global Advanced Air Mobility Systems (GAAMS) is an international organization that promotes the research, development, and implementation of advanced air mobility systems such as electric vertical takeoff and landing aircrafts (eVTOLs) and drones. The organization aims to support the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of these systems for urban transportation and logistics. GAAMS mission is to promote the development and implementation of advanced air mobility systems worldwide, by fostering collaboration and cooperation among industry, government, and research institutions. The organization conducts research, provides education and training, and develops strategic plans and scenarios that anticipate and respond to the challenges of implementing advanced air mobility systems. GAAMS also works closely with stakeholders to ensure that the future ofis sustainable, inclusive and equitable for all. GAAMS promotes the development of advanced air mobility technologies, regulations and standards, and provides a platform for organizations and individuals to share their best practices and successes in the field. The group's goal is to inform policy and decision-making at the national and international level, by providing support for the development of advanced air mobility infrastructure, workforce training and education, and the creation of safe and inclusivesystems for all citizens. GAAMS is open to all organizations, experts and practitioners who are interested in the field of advanced air mobility systems, and who are willing to share their knowledge, skills, and experience to improve the field and to make a positive impact on society.

“Transportation” was the name of the game at the fourth annual Summer Transportation Institute, held on campus for middle and high school students from July 6 through July 30. The program, held Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., was run by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. CEE faculty, staff, and graduate students provided lectures and led discussions throughout the program on all modes of transportation, sustainability in transportation, and careers in transportation. The program covered topics such as water, air, and land transportation, as well as intermodalism and safety. Students also worked on projects in state-of-the-art interactive classrooms at the College of Engineering. They participated in preparing project presentations in teams, learning about transportation concepts through hands-on activities, and exploring the transportation discipline with fun and engaging field trips. In the past these trips have included a cruise through Boston Harbor and a visit to the State House. Also included were some purely recreational activities, such as hiking on local trails and kayaking on the Connecticut River. The Summer Transportation Institute was a full scholarship program with no out-of-pocket costs for participants. Scholarships covered all program costs, including workshops, handouts, facility usage, equipment, supplies, field trips, laboratory fees, speakers, lunch, and snacks. The program was sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and local communities and organizations. The non‐residential program encouraged all applications, especially those from women, minority students, and students with disabilities. (July 2010)
