Please take note that it is not the normal/usual Risks Management as most people associate dealing with such as Insurance Risks or Enterprise Risks. So it is not the Risks that people are familiar with. While Enterprise Risks Management deals with Global Risks affecting a Project such as Currency Differences, Political Instability, Insurance exposure etc etc, Contract Risks deals solely with risks arising solely out of the contractual relationship between the parties to a signed Contract. Most InternationalCompanies have well developed Enterprise Risk Management but very few have a well developed Contract Risks Management team. Why ?, because the top management fail to realise that the team in the Enterprise Risk Management department are not trained to handle Contract Risks as the requirements, skill sets and knowledge are completely different. From experience, very few enterprise risk management professionals are well versed to handle, assessed and managed contract risks like LAD's, Delays, Damages, Claims, Unjustified Terminations, Non Payments etc etc. These risks will be better managed by Contract/Commercial Managers with arbitration exposure preferrably as Claimant's Representative experience. Contract Risks are not well developed even today in many InternationalFirms and the main purpose of this group is to advocate the importance of managing Contract Risks properly as an essential component of managing aCompany to profitability and growth. So those of you who are in the Insurance Industry, please refrain from joining as Contract Risks are not the kind of risks that you are familiar with.
