This research group is a subgroup of Civil Engineering Heritage and Future, aiming to unlock the potential growth of offsite construction industry in the UK. There is a number of industrial collaborative projects between universities (Northumbria University, Imperial College London, University of Leeds, Griffith University, University of Birmingham and University of Southampton) and industrial partners (Extraspace, MMCEngineer, Lynx Precast, James Christopher Consulting, Intelligent Steel, European Regional Development Fund (EDRF) and Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Network (KTP). This group aims to encourage a culture of innovation that benefits business, leading to greater export opportunities and increased graduate employment, particularly in science and engineering. It will enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop new products and services. This research group is led by Dr Keerthan Poologanathan, an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at Northumbria University. He has more than 10 years of experience in R&D, testing, and advanced numerical modelling of thin-walled and cold-formed steel and lightweight structures, steel products, modular building panels and assemblies, and fibre composites for retrofitting and rehabilitation of structures. He has worked on Innovate_UK, KTP, Collaborative PhD and ERDF funded projects (More than 1 Million 9 funded projects) with key industry partners such as steel manufacturers for light panel systems and leading UK’s provides of modular and prefabricated buildings. He is BSI's B/525/9 structural use of aluminium sub-committee member EC09 and EC03. His research on cold-formed steel beams now features in Australian codes of practice (AS/NZS 4600, 2018). Since 2012, he has secured 3 Australian Research Council (ARC) grants (>1M AUD).
