SRUTI, The India Music and Dance Society is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization based in the Philadelphia region and founded in 1986. SRUTI is a volunteer-run organization. Its leadership comprises an elected Board of Directors and several committees. SRUTI publishes an annual magazine Sruti Ranjani and a periodical, Sruti Notes. Every year, around 10 or more world class music and dance recitals are presented during the Spring and Fall seasons by SRUTI in the Greater Philadelphia area including the City, Suburbs and the State of Delaware. SRUTI also collaborates with other presenting organizations like the Painted BrideCenter, Kimmel Center forArts, Annenberg center at University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Montgomery County Community College and other Indian cultural organizations. SRUTI has a comprehensive website www.Sruti.org and also has a strong presence on Facebook. Presence in other social media such as Twitter and Google+ is planned for 2012. World renowned Artists who have performed for SRUTI in the past include, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Lalgudi Jayaraman, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, M Balamurali Krishna, Hariprasad Chaurasia, K.J.Jesudas, Sudha Raghunathan, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, L. Subramanian, Mandolin Srinivas and Chitravina Ravikiran. In addition we have presented several Danceand individuals – Kalakshetra Dance Group, Nrityagram, Dhananjayans, Kathakali institutes - Kalamandalam, Sadanam and Margi, Alarmel Valli and Priyadarshini Govind. SRUTI has received generous grants from private foundations and public organizations including the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Dance Advance and Philadelphia Music Project (funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts) and the Sam Fels Foundation in addition to a loyal and appreciative audience.

This group is to gather folks who are in the business of arts, including theater, visual arts, dance, music, circus, and all others, who would like to attend a monthly In Person event that uses business networking techniques to introduce folks while having fun and making valuable connections! I was inspired by two days at two different but equally informative meetings: While attending Engage.Next 6.0 in April, I spoke to a number of people who were interested in having the chance to meet with, network and build partnerships with other artists of all diciplines. One said they wished there was some sort of platornic 'Speed Dating" for companies, owners and artists to meet and chat. The following day I went to a womens business networking event that showed me how to bring a "speed" networking element into a group in a way that is fun and relaxed. I thought how great would it be to bring these techniques back to the artists and art center owners who already realized the worth of staying connected. I plan to schedule in person meetups in the South Bay and Penninsula once a month. If there is wider interest, we might expand to online meetups so that folks in all areas could benefit. This group serves as both a place to share your desire for an invite to such an event, as well as a live, 24/7 platform to ask questions and get advice on more immediate challenges.

The Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company has been presenting new, innovative and dynamic works for the past many years for which it has received much critical and public acclaim. The repertory of professional dancers and musicians has had the opportunity of representing India on many international forums and in major dance festivals across India and the world. Last year we performed at the world's largest and most prestigiousfestival, The Edinburgh International Festival 2012. Since its inception more than 60 years ago only two Indian dancehave been invited to showcase their work at this festival. The Hussein Foundation has been founded to accomplish the dream of a young man of 20 who drowned in 2010. Hussein arrived in the Netherlands in 2005 together with his brothers and was reunited with his mother and little sister. He integrated very quickly in the Dutch society. His schooleducation went very well and his passion for dancing became bigger and bigger. He worked as a volunteer at an after school care, helped children to get more self confidence, teached them to dance and a lot more. His dream was to go back in a few years to his homeland Burundi to found an orphanage. Fate prevented this from happening. With friends and family we decided that in his name we wanted to accomplish his dream. The foundation is very busy to obtain enough money to do this. Offcourse we do need the help from individuals, companies and associations. What do we need: eventually transport to Burundi, materials like furniture, schoolequipment, building materials. We want to give the children a better place to live, to learn them self support to generate a better future.

Trojan Dance Marathon was founded in fall 2007 by sophomore Suzanne Fitzgerald and freshman Scott Slesinger. Their chance meeting led to a new partnership and friendship that laid the foundation for the Dance Marathon movement at University of Southern California. After finding a DM-experienced advisor on campus, meeting with the Children’s Miracle Network, and forming a small but devoted committee, USC’s Dance Marathon was planned and executed in a few short months – six hours of music, 200 people and $6,500 raised for the kids! The venue – Ground Zero, a student-run coffee shop at USC – was small, but was just right for USC’s first event. In 2009, Dance Marathon moved to a bigger location – USC’s Lyon Recreation Center – attracting greater publicity and participation. With a more passionate committee, a segment on E! Entertainment News, and a guest appearance from ABC’s Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba, Dance Marathon raised $14,000 for the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. In it’s third year, TrojanDM continued to grow as an organization and was able to capture the attention of USC students all over campus and in their online habitats. As the event of the year, DM 2010 inspired CHLA ambassadors and families, over 500 dancers, and raised over $30,000 for the kids! DM 2011 exceeded even more expectations with over 1,000 dancers registered and over $50,000 raised for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and DM 2012 continued its success by raising over $60,000 for CHLA. Every year, the word continues to spread as more student organizations attend Dance Marathon and outside companies express interest in helping the cause. The Executive Board and Dance Marathon Planning Committee will work to make sure DM 2014 is just another step forward in making Trojan Dance Marathon a premiere cause and event on the USC campus, recognized in Los Angeles and across the nation.
