On May 1st, 2015 it will be 30 years since the foundations were first laid for our KPMG Sustainability group. The group originally began as a separate division within Volder & Co in The Hague with the name “Volder & Co Environmental Consultancy”. Volder & Co was at that time part of the management consulting group from TRN (Touche Ross Netherlands Group; now “Deloitte”). Our environment group, later known as “TRN Environmental Management” parted ways from TRN in June 1992 and transferred entirely with 31 colleagues and all clients to KPMG where all its activities were continued. This was first done under the name “KPMG Environment” and then later under the name “KPMG Sustainability”. In 1992 the Netherlands also established the “KPMG International Environmental Network” (later “KPMG Global Sustainability Services”) and now known as “KPMG Climate Change & Sustainability Services”. Since the group was established in 1985, the group has grown from two to 40 professionals in the Netherlands and over 700 professionals internationally. Due to the fantastic efforts of many KPMG alumni and colleagues over the years, KPMG Sustainability has established a good market position and is now seen as one of the leading professional services organizations in this area, with an internationally recognized brand. From 1985 it is estimated that several hundred colleagues and alumni from many different backgrounds and nationalities, have worked, and/or still work for KPMG Sustainability and its predecessors.
