Their counterparts inand soil sciences, plant breeding, and agricultural research have great technical training and resources but find it difficult to relate with and apply their science to globally important agricultural problems and unfamiliar crop plants. Since 2007, the 'Rice: Research toCourse' hosted by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines has brought together the best and brightest of a globally diverse groups of young researchers, extension workers, and graduate students around a 3-week training program focused on rice science and cultivation and its critical role in current and future global food production and socioeconomic development issues. Smart Farming Applications Despite its impact on human labor, smart farming is proving its worth in raising productivity through smart applications — notably the following ones: Precision farming IoT sensors on the ground, in the water, or aboard vehicles controland livestock raising. Farmers access data collected from the field through low-cost satellite feeds and sensors using tablets and smartphones.
