LifeStriders is more than a therapeutic riding program. It is the only PATH, Int. certified therapeutic riding program in south eastern Wisconsin, that also offers social skills groups, an at-risk youth and mentoring program, individual/family counseling and an Equine Facilitated Mental Health Program. LifeStriders operates to serve four major programs: Therapeutic Riding Program Combines elements of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and other modalities to address the needs of each client. Horses become partners in the healing process by offering enhanced physical and mental stimulation for many people with physical or cognitive emotional disabilities. LifeStriders Heroes Program grew out of a partnership with the Milwaukee VA to provide therapeutic riding to veterans with Spinal Cord Injuries, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Reintegration Issues. Veteran participants learn to work with horses as partners to help strengthen their bodies, memory and problem solving skills while emotionally recovering from their combat experiences by building trust and relationships with the horses and with each other. Youth Program LifeStriders understands that many at-risk children and young adults do not engage or buy-in to traditional therapies. Equine therapy has shown to be an effective modality for intervention and rehabilitation for many of these cases due the hands on/nature based approach offered at LifeStriders.
