I am currently in the midst of obtaining my Reading Specialist degree and are aware of how elementary schools identify, monitor and deliver reading intervention to students who struggle with reading. From my observations this high level of remediation seems to stop once they leave elementary school. The Salem State University Upward Bound Program offers academic instruction, tutoring and enrichment activities throughout the school year and during a six-week summer program. Four weeks are spent on campus at Salem State; students reside in the residence halls from Sunday night through Friday afternoon. This schedule means that families typically cannot travel during the month of July. The academic year component requires all program participants to attend after-school services. The founding members are parents who met at the parents' committee formed in 2011 to oppose the shrinking of preschool education in the city of Halandri. Since the end of August 2012, our Social Cooperative Enterprise is a member of the Ministry of Labor Social Economy Registry.
