The Healthcare Executives' Club (HEC), founded in 1958, is a professional membership association dedicated to providing its members with a forum that contributes to their contemporary and relevant knowledge within the administration, management and organizational delivery of health care and human services. Among other guiding principles, the Healthcare Executives’ Club promotes and communicates the values and ethics associated with effective leadership qualities in the provision of health and human services for diverse populations and communities. It began through the common interest of several hospital administrators seeking a means to share meaningful experiences, provide learning for professional development and give the opportunity for fellowship and networking among colleagues within the Greater New York City area. Ambulatory Emergency Care services are designed to see and treat acutely unwell but stable patients who may not need to be admitted but who require rapid diagnosis and/or treatment or a period of observation and monitoring. Most acute hospitals in the UK have some form of ambulatory care service but practices and function varies from centre to centre. There is increasing Department of Health pressure to manage certain conditions without hospital admission. This group aims to share the experiences and practices of those involved in ambulatory care provision including pathways, governance, best practice and ideas for future development and is intended to be a way to discuss ambulatory care with others who are also interested in providing and expanding ambulatory care for their patients. It is hoped that clinicians, allied health professionals, trainees and managers from both the UK and around the world, will use and contribute to the group.

KAN and its affiliated investigators have been supported to conduct practice-based research through federal and foundation grants—Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Pfizer, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and the Kentucky Association of Family Practice (KAFP)—and by the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS).
