The rise of wind power as an alternative source of energy is commendable in many respects - definitely a step in the right direction - but there is still a long way to go before the industry becomes genuinely sustainable. Whilst it must be acknowledged the industry is improving over time there are still numerous examples of incorrectly sited wind farms - some generic examples are as follows: 1) Siting on peat bogs - where tower vibration deep in the bog causes the release of methane - a green house gas 20 times the potency of CO2. 2) Siting at migratory routes for bird populations - resulting in wholesale destruction of bird populations or causing birds previously native to the area to leave altogether. 3) Due consideration of power line routing is not beyond the wit of developers. If public dissatisfaction and NIMBYism is to be reduced - then respecting their concerns should be a priority. For example - putting giant pylons through a protected national park because it is the cheapest option - should be seen as an example of poor practice - especially as alternatives exist. There is no reason why such concerns cannot properly and genuinely be taken into account and given the respect they deserve - the industry itself should take a lead on this - given that it profits the most. In terms of manufacture there is still much to be done when it comes to research into renewable materials - such as the use of bio-plastics and bio-composites with hemp or flax based matrice fibres for example. How much are recycled materials used in re-manufacture ? - in particular the use of reclaimed copper would go a long way to reduce the damage done by extraction of raw materials. Finally wind power has the ability to empower local communities through community wind power initiatives. If local communities are being asked to have their views changed then why should they also not profit from the exploitation of their natural resource ?

Headquartered in Hong Kong while listed on the ASX, Energy World Corporation is an independent energy company with operating power and gas plants and projects under development in Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia. The strategy of its Chairman, Managing Director and CEO Stewart Elliott is for the company to become a leader in modular LNG trains -- which allow greater gas field flexibility -- and an operator of a vertically integrated clean energy supply chain. Stewart Elliott's aim is to deliver power, natural gas and LNG throughout Asia Pacific. In power generation, Energy World owns and operates a 315MW combined cycle power plant at South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and an 8.68MW plant at Alice Springs, Australia. The gas and LNG produced will be piped to the nearby power station mentioned above and sold to local or international markets. In Queensland, Energy World has exploration andrights at two gas fields. Development of these is under study by the company's experts. At Pagbilao, an LNG hub is under construction and expected to be the first operational in the Philippines. This is projected for early in 2015. It includes a jetty and LNG import-export terminal with a cryogenic tank, regasification plant plus pipes, meters, pumps and compressors. It will feed gas into the above power station and domestic and international markets.
