Founded in 2017, urb@n conducts critical, interdisciplinary and collective urban research focused on developing an integrated, holistic vision for urban sustainability and resilience. This research agenda concerns both spatial and process aspects of urban development. It is guided by the belief in understanding rapid urbanization and promoting innovation in policy, design, planning and management to respond to economic and social challenges. The research emphasis stems from our belief that we need to fundamentally reshape and redesign our urban areas to mitigate (and adapt to) climate change and address global ecological crises. Focusing on the design of innovative solutions and the strategic implementation of projects in a realistic policy context, the research group analyses the interrelationship between basic research, physical (urban) developments and social developments, spatial governance based on GIS and urban development policy processes. Policy-oriented or applied research aims to design innovative spatial projects, tools and policies, spatial impact assessment based on GIS or to evaluate existing urban development projects. Members of the research group apply a wide range of research methods, including design research, historical research, legal research, case study-research and quantitative research.

The Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) department, formerly the Instructional & Performance Technology (IPT) department, is one of seven departments in the College of Engineering at Boise State University. It offers a Master of Science degree in OPWL and graduate certificates in Workplace Performance Improvement, Workplace E-Learning and Performance Support, and Workplace Instructional Design.
