Established in 1996, Central European University's summer program (SUN) hosts high-level, research-oriented, interdisciplinary and innovative academic courses as well as workshops on policy issues for professional development in the social sciences and the humanities. Courses are offered for graduate students, junior or post-doctoral researchers, teachers and professionals. The faculty includes distinguished international professors and experts (including CEU professors) from a wide range of countries. While application from all over the world is encouraged, continued priority is given to applicants from Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and countries of emerging democracies worldwide. Applicants from these countries, when admitted on merit, will be eligible for scholarship, while those from developed countries will usually be expected to pay fees. Course offerings cater for the various needs of academic and professional development across a wide spectrum of disciplines. These include anthropology, cultural studies, environmental sciences, comparative religion, political science, public policy, sociology, international relations, legal studies, etc. The program encourages topics in newly emerging fields and transdisciplinary approaches. The program is unique in its diversity of faculty and student body as well as its academic offerings. It brings together groups of interested individuals to study together intensively for short summer courses in Budapest coming from an enormously varied geographical, cultural and academic background. Participants have been accepted into the program from 120 different countries ranging from East and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union to countries of Asia, Africa, North America and South America. This exciting multi-cultural composition of the courses provides a stimulating environment for engaging participants and faculty in an inspiring and enriching dialogue during the summer school.

The Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) was established at the University of Cambridge in 2001 as a hub for dynamic scholarly encounter and development. Our mission is to promote collaborations across the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, and beyond their edges, in order to stimulate innovative and interdisciplinary thinking and dialogue and to reach out to new networks of interest and new publics. The purpose of this group is to further the conversation on innovation in the SHAPE disciplines (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy). So often, when we talk about innovation, we turn our minds to the STEM disciplines. However, researchers from the social sciences and humanities, the SHAPE disciplines are increasingly involved in creating impact though research-based innovation. What these fields bring to innovation is a wider focus on the challenges and problems we are facing as a society, and a broader way to think about impact. In addition, many of the technological solutions that are coming out of STEM carry cultural, societal and ethical implications – from AI and quantum computing to the development of crops that can withstand climate change. All data, both quantitative and qualitative, points to the necessity to bring STEM and SHAPE Innovation together to truly solve the challenges of our time. In Denmark, although there is a strong research tradition in the SHAPE disciplines there is not much conversation about what innovation from these disciplines look like, what sort of impact it can have and how to bring it more effectively into interdisciplinary research and ventures.

As a UN member state, Switzerland is required to implement the Goals. Urbanising Deltas of the World (UDW) is a public-private research and innovation programme of the Netherlands organisations for Scientific Research (NWO) that aims to contribute to global water safety and food security, and sustainable economic development in river deltas worldwide. Its goal is to come to effective and efficient responses to meet the challenges associated with climate change, population growth and increasing economic activities in these regions. Group This group is meant to facilitate matchmaking in advance of the preliminary call for proposals (deadline 1 March 2013) and to give information on the proceedings of programme, including follow-up calls for proposals. Budget The budget for the entire UDW programme amounts to 10 million euro. The first call for proposals was launched in November 2012 and has a budget of 5,5 million euro. The maximum contribution for a project proposal is €750,000. In-kind or cash cofunding of 5-25% is requested from third parties. Consortia are invited to submit a proposal for an Integrated Project that will run for four to five years. These projects should constitute, operationalise and integrate activities and sub-projects on knowledge sharing, research and capacity development and training. Partners UDW is a joint activity of the NWO themes ‘Water and Climate’ and ‘Connecting Sustainable Cities (VerDus)’.
