A city famed for it’s industrial roots and rich musical heritage but plagued with gangland violence and criminality, the “no nonsense” attitude of Manchester has always managed to keep audiences intrigued and captivated. Fast forward to 2015 and Manchester is still firmly on the musical map and widely respected as a city known for spawning genre defining acts to the world of bass music and hip-hop with internationally renowned artists such as Zed Bias, Dub Phizix, Virus Syndicate, DRS and Shotty Horroh. Enter Raw Calibre, the newest edition to Manchester’s underground Hip-hop and bass legacy. Made up of MC’s Guillotine Mack, Mic Beef and Christov, the trio have firm sights on making their mark on the world stage. The group were born in north of the city, in the underbelly of Manchester in 2013, after Guillotine Mack was released from jail. It was during Mack’s time in jail that he was inspired to write music and vent his frustrations through creative, thought provoking lyrics in the imitable style of a true Mancunian. Firm friends and fellow MC’s Mic Beef and Christov re-connected with Mack upon his release from jail and the trio began to work relentlessly in the studio, day and night, perfecting theirand bringing their stories of social commentary and street struggle to life. Raw Calibre was born. Their debut release The Hierarchy EP was inspired by the conviction of Guillotine Mack and the helpless situation he found himself in. “During my time in jail I finally realised where someone like me sits in the hierarchy of society”. Production comes from notorious bass music producer MRK1 whose heart thumping bass and infectious melodies pave a platform for Raw Calibre to unleash on the music industry.
