I am trying to inspire local artists to band together to help one another symbiotically. I am thinking if we helped one another we could have limitless possibilities. I made a fan page on Facebook as well where we can all assemble and a live chatroom with Skype. I expect we can aid one another in the following ways: -Recommend one another to clients who request art outside of our medium. -Feed off of one another's marketing knowledge. It is a commonly known fact that artistic people SUCK at the business side of their art. If you are anything like me, you are lost when it comes to marketing yourself and selling your art because it's hard to look at our work as a 'product' to be sold. We need to wrap our brains around this part of the craft. Let us do it together. -Promote one another and Cross Promotion. Some crafts can go together hand-in-hand. Example: Say you get hired to paint faces at a birthday party but they want balloon animals too. Hit up that balloon animal artist through the fan page. -Don't be the last to hear about the nextevent or art bazaar. Be in the loop and get in the know. -Answer questions about our craft and the creative process. Spread the little tidbits of helpful hints and gems of knowledge that come from years of experience. It's always nice to edify your fellow man and a fellow artist. Lets stick together to empower one another. New friends never hurt anyone, am I right? If you haven't already, I suggest you create a Facebook Fan Page to promote your art as a business. If you're anything like me, for every REAL customer you get, you have 30 friends lining up asking you for free art. Not that I don't LOVE to do my friends a solid, but I want to make a career out of my art, and giving away free art isn't going to pay my bills. We can help each other with gigs. If you get asked to do a job outside of your medium, suggest another artist who specializes in it. Pay it forward and it will come back to you, guaranteed.
