The Sheridan Chemical and Environmental Laboratories (CEL) has been established as part of the School of Applied Chemical and Environmental Sciences at Sheridan to enable faculty-driven student-based applied research, and to provide analytical, engineering and training services to the community. The vision of CEL is to establish lasting relationships and sustainable partnerships with industry and academic institutions, regionally, nationally and internationally. The priority of CEL is to help alleviate the impact of anthropogenic activities on the environment by stimulating the development and adoption of green chemistry, sustainable processing, and responsible management. CEL has at its disposal an extensive inventory of process and analytical equipment located in the School’s several laboratories: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Instrumentation, Unit Operations, Environmental, and Microbiological. CEL also taps multidisciplinary resources through its close ties with the Sheridan Centre for Intelligent(CIM). CEL is organized faculty members Dr. Manju Sunil Varghese and Dr. Stephen Smith. CEL activities are overseen by the School’s 50 faculty members, 14 of which are full-time. These faculty are highly specialized in diverse chemical, chemical engineering and environmental fields. This talent pool enables CEL to professionally engage in a variety of applied research and service activities. The base of CEL are the School’s professionally-oriented students, enrolled in two- and three-year chemical/environmental technician and technologist programs. Students conduct projects on-campus and at off-campus co-op assignments.
