Despite the potentials of Nigeria's mining industry, the sector has seen a continuous decline - something that writers have aptly described as comatose. No thanks to the Federal Government's blind decision to favour the oil sector in its mineral development. Mining, which currently contributes just 1 per cent to Nigeria's GDP, has significantand iron ore reserves, as well several gold, uranium, tantalum, etc across the country, with uranium found in six of the 36 states of the federation. But Nigeria is making efforts to save this all-important sector: Towards the end of 2002, the present Ministry of Mines and Steel Development was authorised to establish the country’s first Geological Survey, with its key tasks being to act as a repository of minerals information and to ensure that this is available to the private sector; There is the Mining Cadastre Office whose task is to issue mining leases, licenses and permits on 'first-come, first-serve' and 'use it or lose it' basis; In 2004, the government and the World Bank announced that they will spend a sum of N11 billion (US$120 million) to fund this sector through the establishment of a project for sustainable management of mineral resources - an attempt to address issues of artisan and small-scale mining as a poverty reduction strategy. The credit of the project, which would assist government to draft a new Minerals Act to replace the 1999 Minerals Act, and known as Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources Project, is repayable over 35 years including a 10-year grace period with no interest charged. There is light at the end of the tunnel; there is hope. But all hands must be on deck to achieve this - it is a collective responsibility. The essence of this group, therefore, is to fashion a way to assist government in its battle to save Nigeria's solid minerals and mining industry, and sell it to the world.

This training course has been created in consultation with theindustry to deliver a standardised method of incident control. Final trials of the MEMS2 product were completed in September. Final commercial trials are currently being occurring at two sites in the Bowen Basin. Mining Logic Solutions sees both these products producing significant safety and reporting improvements to, initially the underground mining environment, and then the wider mining industry. The acquirer then takes the earned revenues and reinvests to acquire and clean up more land as well as contribute a portion of the earnings to developing new cleantech technologies that play a role in bettering our planet and making the Earth a more sustainable place.
