Slideluck is a non-profit organization devoted to building and strengthening community around food and art. In addition, it is our objective to promote public appreciation of the visual arts and to provide art education opportunities to school-age children in New York City. Slideluck sponsors exhibitions of artistic works, each produced in an entertaining slideshow format. They have been held in over 65 cities around the world, from Stockholm to Sao Paulo to San Francisco. These exhibitions create a forum for exposing the general public, artists, and other members of the art community to new work. Undiscovered and very accomplished artists, photojournalists, painters, designers, sculptors, fashion and fine art photographers all show their work alongside one another in a relaxed and spirited environment. Each Slideluck event is preceded by a potluck-style dinner. Attendees and presenting artists bring food and drink for two hours of dining and mingling. The potluck provides the opportunity for interaction in an informal atmosphere that encourages dialogue about the artwork to be exhibited. Slideluck has also developed the Slideluck Youth Initiative, a workshop targeted to New York City public middle and high school students. The vision of the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts is to encourage and develop creativity, self expression, academic achievement, and critical thinking in the young artist. Upon graduation, students will have mastered a common core of learning that supports the broader education of the artist and promotes a respect for cultural diversity. As a result of this training, the student will have the skills necessary to be successful in a college or university arts program and to become an active consumer, strong advocate, and valued participant in the larger arts community. As part of the Prince William CountySpecialty programs, any student who resides in Prince William County may apply to attend Woodbridge High School as a participant in CFPA. The application process includes an audition and the submission of a portfolio of works, teacher recommendations and grade transcripts. Students who would like to pursue a more in-depth study in the areas of creative writing, dance, vocal music, instrumental music, theater, television productions, or visual arts are encouraged to apply. The deadline for application is usually the third week of January. Any student new to Prince William County after that deadline has sixty days from the official date of residence to apply to the program. In addition to the six required credits in the particular art concentration, students in the CFPA program maintain a rigorous academic load which includes a humanities approach in the areas of language arts and social studies. The oldest fine arts cultural festival in the city of Los Angeles began in 1936, under the direction of John Smallman. Annually, the Los Angeles Bach Festival has presented organ, choral (professional and volunteer singers), and orchestral performances at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles until 2013. In 2014 the Festival moved to All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, with James Walker as Artistic Director. The Festival traditionally runs the third week of October. Program includes an Organ Concert by an artist of world renown, a Finale Concert featuring the Los Angeles Bach Festival Chorus and Orchestra performing a masterwork of JS Bach, a Young Persons Concert for students grades 5-12, and in prior years, the Junior Bach Competition.
