It has been recognised since the Children Act 1989 that the residential experience can be “a positive and desirable way of providing stability and care for some young people”. We aim to provide this positive experience through provision of small occupancy homes with qualified staff working in line with social pedagogic principals. Our objectives are to offer a chance to young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties which are indicative of their personal circumstances. The provision of athat accepts youngsters for who they are and provides a positive foundation to promote development and opportunities. A physical environment which is a homely, domestic environment with compulsory safety measures being made as non-institutional as possible Our homes range in size from four beds to single occupancy. All the young people will have their own bedrooms and are actively encouraged to personalise their own space. They are also consulted on communal living spaces ensuring involvement and ownership of these spaces. We foresee that these youngsters will come to us with a history, which encompasses innumerable placement breakdowns, emotional /behavioural problems, involvement with delinquent/ criminal activities, etc. We aim to promote an atmosphere which is nurturing, welcoming and supportive where the young people can achieve their full potential emotionally, socially, educationally and physically, where the staff team actively work with the young people to identify and foster areas of strength and strengthen areas of weakness.
