Lydia Place has been an experienced provider of housing and homeless support services for women and their children since 1989. Lydia Place provides a six-month transitional housing program featuring life skills classes, advocacy, a therapeutic children’s group, individualized case management, one-on-one parenting support, and a follow-up group for ongoing support. The Lydia Place mission statement – “Lydia Place provides a multi-faceted program that supports women and their children in transition from homelessness to independence” – is the basis for all aspects of our program. Respecting the individual needs of each mother and child, the Lydia Place staff and volunteers are able to assist each family in the changes necessary for their success. In addition to our in-house program... In 2012, Lydia Place will serve 61 households in our Supportive Service Program, providing permanent housing to formerly homeless. The Supportive Service Program is a partnership between Lydia Place and the Bellingham Housing Authority. The Bellingham Housing Authority provides individuals and households with permanent housing apartment units, at six different sites, and Lydia Place provides case management to keep the households stabilized. Since 2006, the Supportive Service Program has housed more than 109 households. In this partnership we are able to serve any and all types of families; single fathers or mothers with children, two parent families and single men or women. In 2008, we started a second partnership with the Whatcom Homeless Service Center. This program is based on the “Housing First Model”. Homeless families and individuals receive assistance in locating a place to live with private landlords in the community, after moving in to permanent housing they receive case management to support their transition from homelessness to independence. Through this partnership we are serving 25 -30 additional households per year.
