Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is a world leader in the treatment of pediatric orthopedic conditions. TSA is a national voluntary health organization dedicated to identifying the cause, finding the cure and controlling the effects of TS. Unlocking The Mystery of TS?  TS is a neurobiological disorder characterized by involuntary movements and vocalizations referred to as motor and vocal tics. Examples of motor tics include eye blinking, shoulder shrugging, facial grimacing or more complex movements such a twirling or hopping. Vocal tics include throat clearing, sniffing, squealing sounds or more complex vocalizations that could include words or phrases that are repeated. A minority of people with TS exhibits a vocal tic called coprolalia. which is the involuntary uttering of curse words or other inappropriate phrases.  Genetic Studies indicate that TS is an inherited disorder.  No medical test can identify this disorder. Diagnosis is made by observing the symptoms and evaluating the history of their onset as well as the family history.  There is no cure for TS.  Research indicates that the majority of people with TS have other associated neurological disorders, which complicate the disorder.
