The Montreal Chapter has been newly invigorated in 2012! We are committed to building a lasting presence and achieving annual fund raising goals for Room To Read in the Montreal area. Room to Read is a global nonprofit that builds, establishes libraries, and provides girls' scholarships in 10 countries in Africa and Asia. Our plan includes; community engagement at various levels (local organizations, businesses, schools,cultural activities), developing relevant corporate partnerships and outreach to our personal networks to build awareness and raise funds for Room to Read's many program initiatives. ACTIVITIES Each fund raising event will be directed towards a relevant and achievable goal. The goals will range from purchasing a specific number of localbooks to building a school or library to funding girls education scholarships. We wish to engage all guests in dialogue about exactly what they are supporting and have them leave with a truly "feel good" sentiment. At each event we hope to broaden our base of support who in turn will spread the word about Room To Read through their own networks.

The purpose of the Foundation is to ensure that children participating in German language immersion educational programs benefit from high quality education, and to maintain and enhance the level of educational excellence. Our objective is to provide the means to supplement a superior German language immersion program and to give children participating in German language immersion programs, a solid cultural awareness and understanding. Our goal is simple: to provide the extra support necessary to maintain and build excellence in the teaching and educational programs that have won national and international acclaim for our school and our children. As our children prepare to enter an increasingly smaller and more competitive global marketplace, it is essential that they learn to speak more than one language and understand people from other cultures. To continue and build upon this legacy of excellence and education, the Foundation has been formed as a charitable, tax-exempt, 501(c)3 non-profit corporation to raise philanthropic support for special programs and initiatives at the schools. The Foundation will focus on raising funds to support those efforts to produce academic and scholastic achievement that can only succeed through private support. The German Immersion Foundation, Inc. is not affiliated with either school or the Milwaukee Public Schools. The Foundation board members are parents of MGIS & MSL Students, staff members of bothand concerned community members. The German Immersion Foundation, Inc. is not affiliated with the PTA or Governance Council of either school nor does it compete with these organizations. By being an independent corporation, the Foundation is unencumbered by any limits in raising or dispersing funds that will help our schools.

Founded in 1981, the school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is registered by the People’s Republic of China as a School for Foreign Children. It is a member of the Council of International Schools, the East Asian Regional Council of Schools, and the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools. AISG is authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to offer the Primary Years Program and Diploma Program. The Middle School offers its own courses based on an American curriculum, and these are combined with IB at the High School. Graduates earn an Americanschool diploma and/or IB Diploma. AISG’s current student body represents approximately forty nationalities. Classes range in size from 17 to 20 students in theand Middle Schools and from 8 to 22 students in High School. Arkki, School of Architecture for Children and Youth is a nonprofit organization. Arkki is the first school in Finland specializing in providing architectural and environmental education to children as an after school activity. Arkki offers a variety of architectural courses to young people and creates educational curriculums for, museums and after school art and architecture clubs. Around 500 children between ages 4 to 19 participate weekly in architectural courses on a long term basis. In addition Arkki offers annually various architectural short term courses for about 1000 children. Arkki is also involved in research projects and organizes events and conferences. Arkki is involved in national and international networks of professionals in the field of architecture and environmental education. It also organizes training of school teachers and daycare personnel. In Helsinki Arkki runs a Children’s Gallery of Architecture. Architecture Clubs The main activities of the foundation at the moment are the weekly architectural clubs. The youngest participants are 4 year olds. Children from 4-6 years learn about architecture through play and imaginative projects by means of model building using different materials. Main themes of investigation are the elements of architecture like the relationship between the built environment and nature, space, light and shadow, colours, shapes, materials, structures, scale and proportion, mass, opening and closure, time and movement. Tradition and cultural history are also part of the curriculum. With 7-14 year olds, issues such as ecology and sustainability are considered and discussed from different viewpoints. Cultural history and the impact of tradition in the design of buildings are studied, as well as forms and mass, structures, and the symbolicof architecture. The relationship between the natural and the built environment is considered. Children get acquainted with city planning processes .
