The idea of the formation of the English language school emerged in 1948. In 1950 the American college in Lovech was opened. In the beginning only two classes studied English but after their moving to Sofia in 1958 they received the status of independent educational institution and was named English language school. This was the first Language school specialized in the teaching of English language. In 1960 the school moved to its present address — 60 Dondukov Blvd., Sofia. In 1978 First English Language School became the first Bulgarian school in association with UNESCO. First English Language School is one of the most prestigious secondaryin Bulgaria. Over 90% of the graduates of the school are admitted to Bulgarian or international universities. After 1987 many of the students who graduated from the First English Language School were accepted to world educational centres such as Cambridge, Oxford, London University, Stanford, Ponoma, Columbia University, and Harvard. It is a tradition for some of our graduates, after finishing their higher education, to return to the School as teachers. Northern High School is located in northern Durham at 117 Tom Wilkinson Road. Northern opened in 1955. 225 certified teachers facilitate the learning of 1,633 students who reside both in the northern rural area of Durham County, as well as northern suburban and urban sections of the city. We have a diverse multicultural population. Northern’s student population is 50% African-American, 41% White, 5% Hispanic, 2% Multiracial, and 2% Asian. Northern not only serves a diverse population ethnically, but also academically and with special needs. Northern serves students with a variety of exceptionalities, such as autism, Learning Disabled, Behaviorally Educationally Disabled, Educable Mentally Disabled, Students with English as a Secondor Limited English Proficiency, and physically challenged students. As in all North Carolina public, students design a four-year education plan prior to entering high school and then enroll in the college/university preparatory, college technical preparatory, or career preparatory programs. The average class size for the five core content areas is 23.7 students per class. The student-to-teacher ratio for the entire school is 15:1. Northern’s goal is to set high expectations for all students and to prepare them to learn and think in a rapidly changing world. We started our programs because vocational training and other forms of education are much needed in Thailand, especially for the unprivileged youngsters in rural areas. We initiate sharing of ideas by involving participants in Thai cultures, lifestyles, traditions while staying and involving themselves with the daily life of local villagers. Thai cooking,, farming, charcoal lessons will also be offered. The main group of the educational activities is poor children (mainly primary school students and also some in secondary schools), as their lives in most instances can be difficult. You don't have to be a teacher! Just a willingness to teach English by simply giving students a chance to listen to speak English! Learning by heart, learning grammar, with opportunities to improve conversational skills. Our goal of promoting volunteer programs needs people to share their personal experiences with others who has the desire to exchange ideas and knowledge while exploring the world? Minimum volunteer commitment is 1 week dependent on the school schedule. The school year begins in May and ends in February, with a semester break from late September to mid-October. There are no administration, service, or agency fees when booking our programs directly through volunteer alliance.org. You are responsible to cover your costs for everything else. We require a minimum of 2 months' notice for sharing a basic room in a teacher's home with their family. Remember you are part of the family and will be responsible for sharing most of the household chores. A donation fee to the teacher/school of around $ 12.00 US a day is requested to cover expenses. Another option with at least 2 weeks' notice is a private or semi-private room in our guest house. Both are very close to the villagers in the communities where you will volunteer.
