OATJ is a local affiliate of The American Association of Teachers of Japanese; a non-profit, non-political organization of individuals and institutions seeking to promote the study of Japanese language, linguistics, literature, culture, and pedagogy, at all levels of instruction. AATJ fosters professional development, the promotion of Japanese and foreign language education, and the exchange of research, and seeks to coordinate its activities with related organizations to promote Japanese studies, including a network of state and regional affiliate organizations. The Women’s Political Engagement Commission (WPEC) is a bipartisan organization motivated to educate and engage women in our community. In an era of increasing polarization, we have noticed that other political and women-led clubs on campus lean one way politically, excluding an opposing view.* We are a coalition of ambitious women who seek the amplification of our sister’s voices in politics and law regardless of their party affiliation. Between biweekly meetings, a vibrant social media campaign, and hosting women led political panels, we strive to inform women on important legislation, current events, and promote civil discourse. UPAAN HISTORY, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES The University of the Philippines Alumni Association-Nevada (UPAAN) was initially formed on June 16, 1995 by Art Javier, Ronaldo Madarang and Alexander Lopez. It gained national recognition in 1999 when it elected its first set of officers with Will Vicuna as president and co-hosted with the University of the Philippines Alumni Association - Los Angeles Chapter the 10th Grand Assembly and Reunion of UPAAA (UP Alumni Association in America) on October 15-17, 1999 at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2003, UPAAN was transformed into a non-profit organization to facilitate the achievement of its goals and objectives. UPAAN amended its original bylaws to conform with the laws of the State of Nevada and comply with the Internal Revenue Code Section 501-C-(3) on non-profit organizations. UPAAN’s application for a non-profit status was approved by the IRS on Nov. 5, 2003 with Tax ID # 753046980.
