Hi. My name is Ryan Sherrod but most of the people I’ve taught know me as “Firefighter Ryan” as a nickname my fellow firefighter, Airman Alexander Cisneros unofficially gave me. I am the only Volunteer Personnel for the 902nd Civil Engineer Squadron Fire & Emergency Services Flight assigned to the Joint Base San Antonio Fire & Emergency Services, Fire Prevention Division. I occasionally volunteer at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph but I mainly volunteer at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland and Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. I am part of a medium size fire department which consists of 220-ish, Supervisors, Fire Inspectors, Alarm Room Dispatchers, Alarm Room Supervisors, and Administrative Personnel. Theassigned to operations provide immediate first response at the Basic Life Support level as EMTs or EMRs, and an Advanced Life Support ambulance has to arrive within 12 minutes of the call. My dream is to be an AFRC Military Firefighter but I have autism, ADHD, severe depression, fibromyalgia, and a history of mood disorder- NOS. I suspect I may be on the PTSD spectrum from when I was taken advantage of in school and beyond. I am working on getting into a Fire & Life Safety Educator I course to get certified in accordance with Department of Defense Manual 6055.06 (DoD F&ESCP) so I can officially perform public fire education duties as an Honorary FF and also eventually my National Registry Emergency Medical Responder certification so I can be able to stabilize victims of injuries with minimal equipment in accordance with the 2023 version of the Air Force EMS Protocols. My dream was to be a Firefighter since I was approaching my third birthday in July 2004 and more specifically an Air Force Firefighter since fourth grade. I made this group for those with neurodivergent diagnoses to support others in their journey to being a frontline worker such as protective services and healthcare.

According to many fire departments, most uniform suppliers don't understand the needs of fire departments and consequently uniforms reflect their lack of attention. When compared by suppliers, most firefighters don't know how to articulate what they really want or need. This group's specific purpose is to intentionally intersect the current needs ofwith the design and functional properties to create the world's best station wear uniforms. Specific areas to be explored, in a non-commercial format are Protection, Design,Function, Fit, and Comfort . We will review the existing standards and compare those against real world functional use, design and practical application. On March 13th 2016, 343 firefighters will ascend the 72 floors of World Trade Center 4 in full firefighting gear in the 2nd Annual New York City Firefighter Stair Climb. While each climber will climb in honor of one of the 343 FDNY firefighters killed on September 11th 2001, the climb also memorializes fallen first responders and military personnel worldwide.
