History - In 2009, Peter Dailey (CEO) and leaders from among the largest Foundations in Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia and Eastern Ohio (the "Region") sought to explore how they could amplify the impact of economic development grants. A study was commissioned by Battelle Memorial Institute’s Technology Partnership Practice to make an assessment regarding the various community needs and ways to assist growing companies{link to Battelle study}. Based on this study, Mr. Dailey and the Foundations drew the following conclusions: •The Region enjoys various sustainable competitive advantages, including: ◦Abundant natural resources ◦A long tradition of hard-working skilled and semi-skilled labor ◦Universities and corporations committed to research and development ◦A fully depreciated manufacturing base ◦ Underutilized and widely available world-class transportation: rail, barge and truck •Renewable energy and clean-tech industries present an unprecedented growth opportunity, both locally and globally. •Our Region's sustainable competitive advantages, if properly harnessed, can form the Foundation for profound economic betterment and extraordinary job growth. Those sustainable competitive advantages create the opportunity to cluster complimentary businesses and activities in the renewable energy and clean-tech sectors in the Region. Leveraging these conclusions, Mr. Dailey formed RMG to act as the catalyst to drive the clustering of our Region's competitive advantages into a powerful force that grows a base of renewable energy and clean-tech employers who will provide well-paying jobs for the unemployed in blighted areas for decades to come.
