Recycled PVB – polyvinyl butyral - (C8H14O2)n - This Group is designed to explore, share and exchange information that will lead to the successful movement and re-use, re-generation of Recycled PVB across the World. My own, personal involvement with PVB began in 2004. I saw what are called, lovingly, “the Hills” and thought there has to be a way that this product can and will be recycled. Since then I can honestly say that there have been times when I wondered if this day would ever come. It has. Fact - The virgin value of PVB is almost the same as the price of Copper per MT! Copper has been recycled for hundreds of years. Virtually any Safety Glass or Laminated Glass since its invention, in a Laboratory accident, of 1903 has utilised the same process. It has altered little in 30+ years. Every single windscreen since 1939 when Ford Motor Company started using it. Unfortunately, PVB has been a spectacular victim of it’s own success. It attaches to the Glass or anything else it comes into contact with almost too well! – Thus driving up the costs of separating it again after its useful life has expired. People have tried to solve this and have been doing this on certain levels for some years. Some have, unfortunately, passed on before seeing success. Some have lost fortunes, trying. Some have given-up! The intention now is to try and bring this to-gether, in one "Linked-in" Group and enable us to see this challenge through. Many people around the world and many applications could be utilising recycled PVB . The aim, of course is to sell the available product – stop it from being Landfilled. Our own process has product to sell and a full data sheet is available on request. PLEASE spread the word on this Group to anyone that you feel may usefully contribute. Prior to the setting up of this Group any search for PVB produced “no results” – now we have a home! “Recycling PVB” or “Recycled PVB” search on Wikipedia obtains the same result.
