Critical metals (CM) which include rare earth metals (REM) are essential and important for the production of electrical and electronic equipment. An increasing demand for green and information technology products could lead to a scarcity of these resources in future and a dependency on a very few supply countries. Currently the extraction of CM from ores is energy intensive and involves environmental risks due to the toxic chemicals involved. An alternative source for CM isElectrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Through the currently applied recycling processes of this complex waste stream REM are lost completely. Moreover, inadequate recycling approaches in developing countries are causing severe sanitary and environmental damages. Hence, it is essential to develop effective and ecologically sound systems, including concerted, pre-treatment and refining processes for an utmost efficient recovery. Due to these manifold challenges the recovery of CM from WEEE cannot be solved on a national level. Experts from all process phases should create an interdisciplinary, transnational alliance in the pan-European context. Against this background the proposed COST Action ReCreew aims to create a European network for innovative CM recovery in order to support the supply of European industries while reducing environmental hazards on global scale.

The project aims to develop innovative ceramic tiles containing about 70 wt% of recycled materials, coming from urban and industrial wastes. The specific objectives of the project are related to: • contribution to sustainable waste management, thanks to the recovery of the amount of soda lime glass (SLG) cullet waste that today is not re-introduced in glassware (about 30% of the total glass waste); • reduction of the use of natural resources thanks to: o the use of SLG, coming from urban collection: in traditional ceramic tile formulations it acts a partial substitution for feldspar flux; until now however, it was not possible to recycle this material in percentages higher than 20-30%; o the reuse of exhausted lime (EL) and its diversion from landfill disposal. EL is an industrial waste consisting in calcium hydroxide reacted with combustion fumes in ceramic industrial plants. Until now it is reinserted in traditional ceramic body only in negligible amount (lower than 1 wt%); o the reuse of green scrap tiles, generated during the industrial process, usually reused for a closed loop productive cycle.

ENVIRO NZYME-G,when added helps to • Remove odour • Sludge volume will be reduced more, as more solids are digested. • Sludge will be easier to pump, process and dewater, and will have less odour too. • The capacity of the system will be effectively increased, because more waste can be processed, more efficiently,in lesser time. • The whole system will be able to absorb the shock of toxic influent. • Easier to balance the treatment system. • Bacterial Oxidation of the liquid phase will be faster and more complete • Digesters will operate evenly and uniformly, easier planning and routine waste. • Effluent water standards will be met more consistently, helping to maintain a clean environment and safe drinking water for the population.

This system goes beyond the current National PROMs collection. We have developed a system for collecting, analysing, and publishing outcome data for any defined procedure. This data can then be used by patients to help inform choices about their after-care, enhance quality and cut waste.

The Re-Cycle-Me®™© programme is in line with the philosophy of the project:Besides, some follow-up actions aimed at protecting shared interests, will also be pursued in the context of future developments at Greek and European level, in particular in the area of electrical and electric waste management as well as the area of organic waste management. The proposed work programme corresponds to the ideal of a necessary multi disciplined approached to the topic of waste: the aim is for a balance between the legal, technical, economical, sustainable and educational aspects. In addition Re-Cycle-Me®™© seeks to strengthen its positioning on “resources-product-waste” cycle by an even more systematic integration into its work of the connection between the preservation and scarcity of material and energy resources, sustainable production and consumption, climate change and waste prevention/management. As well as the development and strengthening of our services to permanent supporters, we can combine this work programme based on 3 large axes: 1.The optimization of waste reduction at source 2.The optimization ofand treatment processes 3.Educational projects on climate change and environmental issues.
