Connecting Classrooms helps schools to form international partnerships and to collaborate on curriculum projects. It does this is a variety of ways, including an interactive online platform, grants for teachers to visit their partner schools, professional development opportunities and the International School Award (ISA). Connecting Classrooms is made up of the following four main parallel strands. The first three relate directly to schools: a) Partnerships: A British Council managed programme working in over 50 countries, Connecting Classrooms is committed to supporting partnerships between over 5000 schools in the UK and worldwide and to help over 30,000 schools to collaborate online. Grants are available through Connecting Classrooms for reciprocal visits with a partner school and to support project work. b) Continuing professional development: You can expect online courses that cover - ICT in the classroom (e.g. ICT for professional development, using ICT to enhance project-based learning and child safety and the Internet) - Englishteaching support, aimed at educators with limited English who want to communicate with teachers in the UK and around the world. c) Awards and accreditation: The ISA provides a framework for schools to record and demonstrate all of this international activity and a pathway to receiving the prestigious full award. Structured around three levels of accreditation (Foundation, Intermediate and Full) the ISA is designed to complement the Connecting Classrooms programme; the grant application criteria and the ISA learning journey share three common objectives to: d) Policy dialogue: The programme plans to organise reciprocal visits between countries (both to and from the UK) for policymakers and conferences to encourage an exchange of ideas on policy. Through these activities, policymakers will be exposed to alternative forms of practice allowing them to reflect on their own education policy and strategies.

We are an interdisciplinary graduate-level training program located within the Institute on Disability and Human Development on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus with a satellite location in Carbondale. Our training focuses on leadership development in the areas of advocacy, research, community engagement, and clinical skills for graduate students who plan to work with people with disabilities. We also provide training to family and self-advocates. LEND trainees are graduate students, working professionals, family members, and self-advocates. IL LEND is proud to have trainees from 14 different disciplines including: Applied Behavior Analysis, Disability Studies, Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, Family, Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Public Health, Self-Advocacy, Social Work, Special Education, and SpeechPathology. The LEND program accepts students from UIC, University of Chicago, Southern Illinois University, as well as otherin the area including: The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Adler School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, Loyola University, and Governor’s State University.

The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) public benefit, nonprofit organization championing the literary, artistic, and cultural contributions of the late writer, artist and Indiana native Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. The Library Foundation is creating a library that will also serve as a cultural and educational resource center, functioning as a museum, art gallery, and reading room for readers, writers, and students. In addition, the library will supportand visual arts education for the local community. The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library will serve as a memorial to the author’s literary greatness, his humanistic vision, and his adherence to quintessential American values. The library will exhibit literature, art, and personal items of Kurt Vonnegut. The library will serve both ardent Vonnegutians and newcomers to his unique wit and literary legacy. The library staff will act as docents at the library and coordinators for outreach activities. The library’s website will attract visitors to library events and assets. In this unique artistic community center, visitors will be able to: browse a variety of books that are thematically linked to the life of Kurt Vonnegut; relax with a cup of coffee; view Vonnegut’s books, artwork, personal papers; attend a visiting writers lecture series; and participate in educational outreach through a partnership with local high, starting with the public school Kurt Vonnegut attended in Indianapolis, Shortridge High School. In 2010, The Foundation will make a presentation to Shortridge students on the life and works of Kurt Vonnegut as well as assist the school with the development of its student newspaper. The Library Foundation also plans to develop a literary magazine and to host writing events.
