Officially the "Allied War Veterans Council of South Boston" (@SBAWVC) is a 501(c)(19) responsible for organizing and running the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day / Evacuation Day Parade. The City of Boston recognizes the SBAWVC as the organization responsible for the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day / Evacuation Day Parade. The SBAWVC provides assistance to the South Boston Citizens’ Association for their Evacuation Day dedication event on Dorchester Heights, held annually on the 17th of March. The SBAWVC coordinates a mass at St. Augustine’s Chapel and Cemetery preceding the Dorchester Heights exercises. The South Boston Allied War Veterans Council promotes mutual understanding and cooperation among all federal charted veterans’ organizations in South Boston and their respective members regarding all military, social, and civic matters directly affecting veterans, which are not relative to the election or endorsement of a candidate for political office. SBAWVC membership derives from five South Boston veterans’ posts, which are: Thomas J. Fitzgerald VFW Post #561, South Boston VFW Post #5631, Paul J. Saunders American Legion Post #383, Michael J.
